GUJRANWALA, Sept 5: The Punjab teachers union moved the Lahore High Court on Tuesday for non-payment of big city allowance to the teachers of 39 union councils of Gujranwala district following the division of city and Sadar tehsil councils into four towns.

This was stated by big city allowance tehrik chief organiser Mohammad Ibrahim Saqi at a meeting here on Tuesday.

He said the number of union councils of four towns — Khiali Shahpur, Qila Dedar Singh, Aroop and Nandipur — was 103 and the allowance was being paid to the teachers of 64 union councils regularly.

But the teachers of remaining 39 councils had been deprived of it.

He said they knocked at the door of every government department, including the city district government, for the payment of this allowance, but to no avail. At last, they moved the LHC.

They urged the prime minister to get implement his order for the payment of teaching allowance.

ROBBERS STRIKE: Dacoits and robbers looted three houses and took away a motorcycle in four strikes in and around the city here on Tuesday.

Reports said as many as 12 outlaws entered the house of rice dealer Dr Muhammad Shamshad in Tetley by scaling the boundary walls. They held hostage the inmates at gunpoint and took away a cash of Rs200,000, gold jewellery and valuables.

Three bandits forced their entry into the house of Haji Muhammad Husain Cheema in Wahdat Colony and made off with Rs70,000, gold jewellery, two mobile phones, a cheque book and other valuables.

In another incident, four dacoits sneaked into the house of Shamas Tauhid in Shah Rukh Colony in the absence of owner. They held hostage his wife `S’ and manhandled her on resistance. They took away gold jewellery and cash.

Three robbers intercepted Iqbal of Mahboob Haq locality and took away his motorcycle.
