ISLAMABAD, Sept 5: About two dozen civil society activists on Tuesday held a peaceful protest against the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti.

Chanting anti-military slogans like “army return to barracks”, “murderous army” and “stop committing atrocities in Balochistan”, the protesters demanded an end to military’s interference in the country’s politics.

They said the killing of Akbar Bugti was part of a long history of injustices towards the people of Balochistan. Peace activist Dr A H Nayer said: “We want the military out of Balochistan and the cantonments to be abolished.”

Expressing solidarity with the people of Balochistan, he said the Baloch were aware that their province, though rich in natural resources, remained the poorest and most deprived in the country.—Our Reporter
