MIRPURKHAS: Gen Hayat visits rain-hit areas

MIRPURKHAS, Sept 4: Corps Commander Lieutenant General Ahsan Azhar Hayat on Monday was informed about losses casused by recent heavy rains and breaches in the Left Bank Outfall Drain.

The briefing was given by Chhore Commander of 51-Brigade, Asfandyar Ali Khan, at the Darbar hall.

The corps commander was also briefed plans for helping the affected people.

He was also informed about strengthening of banks of the LBOD drain, relief and rehabilitation of rain-affected people.

Hyderabad GOC Maj-Gen Abdul Aziz Tariq, Sindh irrigation secretary Shuja Junejo, DG (health services) Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, District Nazim Dr Sughra Junejo, DCO Mumtaz Ali Shah, DIG Saleemullah Khan and DPO Abdullah Shaikh were present on the occasion.

The corps commander said that the army in collaboration with the local administration was busy strengthening the affected banks of the LBOD and that the work would be completed within a week.

He directed irrigation officers to prepare long-and short-term plans by conducting a survey of the LBOD drains for removing hurdles and desilting of drains for devising a strategy for implementation.

He directed the DG health services to launch an anti-mosquito campaign in the district and provide necessary medicines to people.

He said that medical and veterinary teams should be sent to relief camps and areas affected by heavy rain for treatment of affected people and livestock.

The corps commander inspected the LBOD RD-354 near Mirpurkhas and met army personnel working there.

Colonel Saleem briefed the corps commander on the on-going work to strengthen banks of the LBOD.

He inspected a relief camp on the Tando Adam road in Hussain Bux Mari taluka.
