110,000 wheat bags likely to be damaged

OKARA, Sept 2: As many as 110,000 wheat bags (100 kilograms per bag) worth Rs120 million will be damaged as it has been lying under open sky for the last four months after its purchase at Haveli Lakkha centre of Food Department.

It is learnt that these bags have not yet been shifted to godowns from the procurement centre. And when the department tried to shift it to the city’s main food department storages, the in charge refused to accept it on the plea that it might have been damaged.

At present, a long queue of trucks loaded with wheat bags are parked outside the stores situated at central Benazir Avenue. The people have urged the governor and the chief minister to take notice of this situation and take action against the staff whose negligence might cost the government heavily.

It is also learnt that the godowns of the food department are lying vacant since the start of the wheat procurement season.

ACCIDENT: Two brothers were crushed under the wheels of a speeding car near Chak 20/2 L on Friday.

Shah Zeb and Khurram Zeb of Chak 20/2 L were returning to home after attending school on their bicycle. They were knocked down on Renala bypass as a result of which they died on the spot.

Renala Saddar police are investigating as the unidentified car driver sped away from the scene.
