KARACHI, Sept 1: Former international Javed Chotani was installed president of Karachi Table Tennis Association (KTTA) in the mid-term elections held during the special council meeting at Islamia Club on Thursday.
The KTTA was recently reactivated after its parent body Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) brought the game out from turmoil in September last.
The incumbent and his team of officials will remain in office till the next elections are held in 2008. Chotani was elected secretary PTTF in the new set-up but stepped down after sometime due to personal commitments.
The association also set a new precedent by approving nine posthumous names for the Hall of Fame in recognition of their services to the sport.
These include Saeeda Sultana, Khan Majboor, Gulzar Zaidi, Maimoona Tahirbhai, Zamir Mirza, Jalilullah, Imdad Ali, Shafi Sani and Majeed Khan.
Their contribution to the Karachi table tennis will be highlighted in the KTTA publications in addition to displaying their photographs in the association’s office.
The council also approved setting up of 10 committees under the umbrella of KTTA on the lines of world body, ITTF. The committees are equipment, marketing and finance, media, nominations, ranking, rules, sports service, technical, umpires and referees and development.
The chairpersons of these committees including 20 percent women will constitute the KTTA executive committee.
Chaired by outgoing chairman S. M. Sibtain, the meeting was attended among others by representatives of clubs and life members of the body.
