Gepco-Nadra agreement for bills collection

GUJRANWALA, Aug 30: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) and the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Wednesday reached an agreement for installation of booths for receiving electricity bills round the clock.

Gepco chief executive Rana Ashraf Zahid said about two million consumers of company would benefit from the facility.

Nadra senior officer Col Khalid Hamid Shah, who signed the agreement, said that about 24 booths would be installed at all tehsil and district headquarters of the region to receive the electricity bills.

He said Nadra already had signed agreements with Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) for receiving the bills.

RELEASED: Sixty-nine prisoners involved in minor crimes were released from central jail by the Gujranwala district and sessions judge during his visit on Wednesday.

Judge Mazhar Minhas visited the jail accompanied by special judicial magistrate Abdul Ghafoor and prepared the list of prisoners involved in minor case. The jail authority prepared the list of these prisoners while the judge ordered their release.

He also checked the jail hospital, barracks, including juvenile and women’s, and kitchen and reviewed the security arrangements inside and outside the jail.

Jail superintendent Mian Shauakt Ali told him that the jail was overcrowded and prisoners were feeling inconvenient in barracks.

PLEA REJECTED: The anti-terrorism court No 2 on Wednesday rejected former MPA Mian Mazhar Javed’s plea for transferring a case registered against him and his men during by-election to sessions court.

Ladheywala police had registered a case of violence and injuring an SHO against the accused under terrorism act.
