PESHAWAR, Aug 30: Medicine teachers have called upon the government to take serious action for the recovery of Dr Ayaz, assistant professor of Ayub Medical College (AMC), and threatened to stop emergency service at night if the situation remains unchanged.

The demand was raised at a press conference addressed here on Tuesday by representatives of the medicine teaching corps.

Dr Ayaz was kidnapped from the Khyber Medical Centre on August 17, and there was no progress in his case so far, said Dr Waqar Alam Jan, President of PGMI Teaching Staff Association, flanked by Dr Arif, Dr Faiz, Dr Gohar and Dr Musa Karim.

Any delay in this regard could endanger Dr Ayaz’s life, he said and urged the government to take the same interest it had taken in the recovery of the son of a colonel from Swabi.

Despite the passage of two weeks, the government had failed to recover the renowned orthopedic surgeon of the country, he said, adding that the law and order situation in the province, especially Peshawar, was deteriorating with each passing day.

The doctors said that they were being particularly targeted by outlaws. Many doctors had been deprived of cash and valuables at gunpoint recently, they added.

They said that a few days ago, a doctor on duty at Khyber Teaching Hospital was beaten up, while another one was robbed of his mobile phone and cash at the Lady Reading Hospital.—PPI
