PESHAWAR, Aug 30: A teacher of a local girls seminary was kidnapped along with his companion in Shalobar area of Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency, the victim’s father told Dawn on Wednesday.
Habibullah, teacher at Madrassa-tul-Binaat in Saeedabad on Pajjagi Road, and his friend Maulana Waqar were kidnapped by five tribesmen on gunpoint in Shalobar area when they were going from Peshawar to meet their friend ten days ago.
The victims were four in the car, but one of them was freed by the kidnappers and another escaped after two days of the incident, said Maulana Imdadullah, administrator of the madressa.
He said that he had sent his son Habibullah to Mohallah Jhangi on Aug 21 to get some pamphlets published for the annual certificate distribution function of the madressa.
At Mohallah Jhangi, Habibullah received a telephone call of his friend Maulana Waqar, a resident of Ahmadkhel locality in Badhber area, who asked him to go to Shalobar as he wanted to meet his friend there.
The two went in a rented car from Mohallah Jhangi and on the way to Shalobar, Waqar picked up his friend Fazal from Sarband area on Bara Road. A tribesman also joined them at Bara.
They went to Shalobar, but Waqar could not find his friend at his home, said Maulana Imdadullah. On the way back, five armed men stopped their car and asked them to go along with them.
The kidnappers freed one and kept the other three at some unknown place in Shalobar area along with their car, the Maulana added.
The tribesman immediately went to political authorities at Bara and informed them about the incident.
However, the authorities on suspicion detained him, Maulana Imdadullah said.
The political authorities have also detained two other persons of the house of Waqar’s friend in Shalobar area.
