LAHORE, Aug 28: Abid Hassan Minto, president of the National Workers Party and convener of Awami Jamhoori Tehreek, on Monday condemned the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti and said it complicate socio-political problems of Balochistan.
In a press statement, Mr Minto said Balochistan’s problems stem from a confluence of issues including provincial autonomy, self-determination, feudalism and sardari system, and Bugti’s killing, in no way, would help solve them.
The military rule, he said, had always accentuated these problems as the army rulers always used one sardar against another. He said Gen Pervez Musharraf had been boasting that he enjoyed the support of majority of sardars, and most of them were part of his government. But, he said, it would not help solve the issue as it did not lead to greater autonomy for Balochistan.
He demanded formation of a national commission to investigate circumstances leading to the death of Nawab Akbar Bugti and his fellow tribesmen.
He demanded that the on-going military operation in Balochistan be stopped immediately. He urged all democratic forces, intellectuals and public at large to get united and wage struggle against the military ruler.
