KARACHI: Mumtaz advises PM to step down

KARACHI, Aug 24: Chairman of the Sindh National Front Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto on Thursday said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz should stepped down along with his entire cabinet now when a document containing corruption charges against him had been presented in the parliament.

“It doesn’t matter the no-confidence motion against him succeeds or not… as a matter of honour and principle, the prime minister and his cabinet should tender resignation and hand over powers to some impartial institutions for holding fresh elections,” he said while talking to visitors in his home town, Mirpur Bhutto.

He wondered that even after being accused of corruption, and the news of the opposition’s move had also spread around the world, the prime minister and his cabinet colleagues continued to stay in powers, and said this appeared contrary to the basic principles of politics.

“Such people have no right to rule, as they are preparing to rig the polls for the fifth time, thus hurting sentiments of masses,” he remarked.

Mumtaz Bhutto said the MQM and waderas in the Sindh government were involved in preparing fake voter lists to turn Sindhis into a minority in the province and maintain their hold all over Sindh. He, however, warned of strong reaction from public leading to a boycott of elections, siege of polling stations and launching of popular movement if the rigging was resorted to.—PPI
