The demonstration was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). Later, the JKLF chairman, Farouque Haider, presented a memorandum to the UN Observer’s office, drawing the attention of the UN secretary-general towards the volatile situation in occupied Kashmir.
“The hanging of Maqbool Butt and not handing over his body to his relatives even after the lapse of 18 years is a grave human rights violation. Thousands of Kashmiris have been killed in firing along the Line of Control,” the memorandum reads and demands that his body should be returned to his relatives and the cross-border firing be stopped forthwith.
It has also called upon the UN leader to arrange tripartite dialogue for the solution of the long-standing Kashmir dispute.
Earlier, the JKLF leaders, in their speeches, blasted India for perpetrating atrocities against Kashmiris in Held Valley.
Paying tribute to Maqbool Butt, they vowed to continue struggle till the liberation of Kashmir.
