PESHAWAR, Aug 22: NWFP Information Minister Asif Iqbal Daudzai has said that the province has sent a Rs22 billion flood protection plan to the federal government. The minister said 229 people had been killed and 173 others injured during recent flash floods in the province.

He said 26,745 houses, 337 roads, 76 bridges, 167 water supply schemes, 23 buildings and other property worth about Rs2 billion were damaged.

“Our government has released Rs240 million to compensate the flood victims,” he said.

He said every DCO would give a briefing to the elected representatives regarding encroachments along river banks.—PPI
