PESHAWAR, Aug 21: Two victims of police torture have urged the chief minister and the IGP to take notice of what they called criminal activities of the SHO PS Kalam who was allegedly backing robbers, dacoits and car-lifters and creating a sense of insecurity among tourists.

Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, Khalid Khan Afridi and Shahid Khan Afridi said that they had gone to Kalam in district Swat to visit the area which attracts a large number of tourists from across the world.

In Kalam, some pickpockets attempted to deprive Khalid Khan of cash and cellphone but one of them was overpowered.

“We wanted to hand over the pickpocket to police but other members of the gang came and asked us to resolve the issue by give and take,” they said.

In the meanwhile, they said, SHO PS Kalam Shah Mumtaz came and put pressure on them not to lodge an FIR. When they refused, police and pickpockets started beating them. Their clothes were torn during the beating.

They alleged that a brother of a local MPA was a member of the gang as he also asked them to avoid registering an FIR.
