KARACHI, Aug 21: Sindh Labour, Transport, Industry and Trade Minister Adil Siddiqui on Monday directed the SITE Limited to initiate repair, patch work on all the rain-damaged roads and de-silting of nullahs within its limits on priority basis.

While chairing a meeting of the SITE Limited on Monday, Adil Siddiqui asked the SITE to start repair of damaged roads so that the industrial activities could not be further affected. He also directed it to clean rainwater drains in its limits.

MD SITE Limited Shazer Shamoon briefed the meeting about progress in solution to the rain-related problems in the area. It was told that SITE Limited had initiated work for draining out rain and sewerage water, and repairing the damaged roads in its limits on priority basis.

“The most rain-hit areas are SITE Karachi, Hyderabad and Kotri, where the recent monsoon rains inundated 90 per cent of roads,” he observed. However, he said, the situation in Nooriabad, Nawabshah and Sukkur remained satisfactory.

It was told that rainwater had been drained from roads in affected areas and traffic was restored after filling potholes and ditches with mud and stones.

Mr Shamoon informed the minister that the industrial areas of Korangi and North Karachi were not included in the limits of SITE and the city government was taking measures to draining out rainwater from these areas. He further said that four rainwater drains were passing through the limits of SITE. “The polythene bags and industrial discharge are creating problems in smooth flow of these nullahs”, he pointed out.—PPI
