Awais Akbar snatched the gold in the 77kg, while Mohammad Ishtiaq Ghafoor and Matiur Rahman grabbed silver in 62kg and 69kg categories.
Awais lifted a total weight of 270kg (snatch 120kg, snatch and jerk150kg). Sri Lankan R. K. N Dayan got the silver, lifting 256kg and Mizanur Rehman from Bangladesh (233 kg) secured third place.
Ghafoor lifted overall 252 kg in 62kg category, while Sri Lanka’s C.G.Vidanage scooped up the gold after lifting 267kg. Bangladesh's Hamidul Islam claimed bronze with 250 kg.
Ghafoor, who lifted 112 kg in snatch and 140 kg in jerk said: “I am excited to win a silver medal before Usman took the gold.”
Mati bagged the silver by lifting 266 kg. Mati and Nepal's Kamal Bha Adhikari lifted the same weight but the Nepali won due to lesser body weight of (67.42kgs) compared to (68.65kgs) of Mati.
FEMALE SWIMMERS SHINE
Pakistan's female swimmers won one silver and two bronze medals as their male teammates gave a frustrating performance at Sugathadasa Sports Complex pool.
Ace swimmer Kiran Khan gave her country a silver, while Rida Sabahat won the bronze before the team took the bronze in 400m freestyle relay.
Pakistan had already won one silver and two bronze. Now they have two silver and four bronze medals altogether.
Kiran finished the 100m backstroke with 1.09.76sec, behind India's Fahira Zman (1.09.05sec). Kishipra Mahajan of India took the bronze.
Rida earned Pakistan's second medal when she clocked (2.51.18) in the 200m in individual medley. India's Tejaswini Varadaraju (2.28.78) and Sri Lankan Mayumi Reheem (2.30.98) got the gold and silver.
Pakistan team consisting of Rubab Raza, Sana Wahid, Ayesha Tajwar and Kiran secured the bronze medal clocking (4.35.08) in the 400m freestyle relay. India claimed the gold and Sri Lanka silver.
In the men’s competition, India maintained their domination, winning six golds out of seven final, while hosts walked away with one gold.
Pakistan’s Imdad Ali got fifth place in 200m backstroke with Sri Lanka winning the gold and India finishing second place. Abdul Aziz finished fourth in 100m breaststroke as India bagged the gold and Bangladesh claimed the silver.
In 50m freestyle, Pakistani Sikandar Khan could finfish at fourth place with India taking the gold and hosts getting the silver and Bangladesh bronze.
Ghulam Sakina settled at fourth place in the 800m freestyle as India got the gold and silver, while Sri Lanka won the bronze.
Rubab secured fourth place in the 100m back stroke.
VICTORY IN SQUASH
Pakistan were assured of gold and silver medals in the men's singles squash when Mansoor Zaman and Aamir Atlas set an all-Pakistan final clash, beating their Indian rivals at Colombo Gymkhana Club courts.
Both the players secured straight games victory over the Indians. The final will be played on Monday.
Mansoor outplayed Harinder Pal Singh 9-0,9-2,9-1 and Aamir notched-up a 9-2,9-2,9-2 victory over Gaurav Nanadrajog.
Mansoor relied on his superb serve and volley game as Harinder struggled against the Pakistani. Mansoor didn’t seem interested in long rallies and depended on a variety of shots.
Aamir was too hot for Gaurav to handle as the Indian failed to match the agility of his opponent. Aamir kept the Indian under pressure with fine strokes and excellent cross court shots.
LOSS IN BADMINTON
Pakistani men and women failed to reach badminton final after being beaten by Sri Lanka at Sugathadasa Stadium.It was a bad day for both the teams in the semifinal stage as men’s lost 2-3, while the women could not even win a single match and went down 0-5.
The only consolation was the two bronze medals for men and women.
Pakistan team wrapped up the event on a sad note just collecting altogether six bronze medals. The four they have won earlier, two in men's singles, one each in doubles and mixed doubles.
Men faltered as top players Wajid Ali and Umer Zeehsan fell tamely.
