LAHORE, Aug 9: The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) has started supplying Sasta Ration Scheme coupons to town municipal administrations (TMAs) for onward distribution among their respective union councils.

The UCs will deliver coupons to 95,000 families, which they have earlier identified as deserving. The UCs will also serve as sale points for the scheme opened by the chief minister on Monday.

The scheme is being launched across Punjab to help one million families fight price hike by providing them 10kg atta, 2kg each of sugar, Dal Masoor and `Dal Channa’ each month at lower than market rates.

CDGL officials say coupons will be provided to towns in advance so that the deserving people could present them for getting the subsidised commodities when these would be supplied to UCs through respective TMAs.

Under a schedule, a couple of towns will be provided each week with a certain quantity of the commodities to be purchased by district authorities one month in advance, they add.

A union council secretary, food official and patwari will form a committee to be set up at each UC to give away the ration to the relevant families and collect the amount for depositing it back to the district treasury through TMAs.
