PESHAWAR, Aug 9: NWFP Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai assured the participants of a conference on Wednesday that the shortage of 4,000 teachers in educational institutions of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) will be removed in a couple of weeks.

Addressing the first Fata stakeholders’ conference, organised under the National Education Assessment System, he referred to the accommodation problem faced by teachers while serving in far-flung areas and said a project had been included in the current annual development programme to provide hostel facility to such teachers and other employees.

The governor said various options were being considered to provide free books and relevant materials to Fata students.

He described the development of a ‘National Education Assessment System’ and its introduction in tribal area as a big stride towards enhancing quality of and access to education.

He called for a critical examination of the system to modify it to suit the Fata environment.

Mr Aurakzai said that medical and engineering colleges were also being planned for the area, adding that post-graduate classes in three degree colleges would start in the current financial year.
