HYDERABAD, Aug 9: Lyari Task Force chief SP Chaudhry Aslam Khan is reported to have approached the family of Rasool Bux Brohi and sought pardon for Brohi’s murder at the hands of LTF personnel in a fake shootout on July 12.

Sources said that the family while accepting the apology of the SP told him that the matter would be decided by their tribal chief Akhtar Mengal.

“Around 20 to 25 people driving private vehicles arrived in our village late Tuesday night from Karachi. The SP brought Holy Quran with him to offer apology,” said a source close to Brohi’s family.

According to the source, SP Aslam Khan admitted that the killing had been ‘mistakenly’ carried out by the LTF because he had been ‘misguided’.

“I don’t want to go into details how it happened and who misguided me but I admit it was for the first time that an innocent person has lost his life at the hands of my team,” the SP was quoted by the source as telling the Brohi’s family.

The deceased’s father, Ismail Brohi, his father-in-law Hashim and other family members were present on the occasion as was the DSP Kotri.

The source claimed that while dialogue between the family members and the SP was continuing, Brohi’s elders received a call from their Balochistan-based sardar.

“The tribal chief said if he (SP) is really showing remorse and speaking under oath then he should be pardoned, but he said that finally he will decide the issue,” said a witness.

“Our family pardoned the SP in the name of Holy Quran. Next morning Hashim, Ismail and Brohi’s widow went to Karachi where police officials tried to pressurise them,” said Ali Nawaz Brohi, the deceased’s cousin.

A murder case has already been lodged with the Sakrand police by Brohi’s widow, Ms Lal Bibi, against the LTF personnel involved in the false shootout.
