KARACHI, Aug 8: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Tuesday presided over a meeting at Chief Minister House in which briefing was given with regard to supply of clean drinking water, electricity and gas to villages.

The briefing was attended by provincial ministers Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi, Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari, Nadir Akmal Leghari, Mir Manzoor Panhwar, Iftekhar Ahmed Choudhry, Dr Saeeda Malik, Dr Sohrab Sarki, Advisor on Local Government Waseem Akhtar, state minister Mohammed Ali Malkani, Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Syed Aijaz Ali Shirazi, Mir Ali Nawaz Talpur, all the district nazims, Sindh chief secretary, Chairman, WAPDA and MNAs belonging to Sindh.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said a line of action would be chalked out for ensuring supply of clean drinking water, electricity and gas to all villages of Sindh.

He pointed out that provision of basic facilities to people in the villages and cities of Sindh is included in the programme of Sindh government.

He said according to WAPDA's record, electricity has been supplied to Sindh's 18,914, out of 22,426 villages, while a programme is there for power supply to another 2,500.

But, he said, according to a survey by the Sindh government, so far 21,150 villages could not be provided electricity.He said as per our survey, there is no electricity in 10,581 villages in Hyderabad Region, 10,132 in Sukkur Region and 437 in Karachi Region.

He said these figures would be checked with the statistics of all the nazims, MPAs and MNAs.

He said it is necessary to check with the list of UC Nazims.

The chief minister informed that 653, out of 670 schemes given by the Nazims of Sindh districts, which involved their funds of Rs 271 million have been completed.

He said the Nazims should collect figures of their villages at the UC level.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Tuesday held separate meetings with a number of personalities at Chief Minister’s House.

Those who called on the chief minister included federal ministers Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat and Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, Senior Advisor to Prime Minister Sharifuddin Pirzada, Chairman, National Commission for Government Reforms, Dr Ishrat Hussain.—APP
