India rejects US ban on firms dealing with Iran

NEW DELHI, Aug 7: India on Monday rejected a ban by the United States on two of its firms exporting chemicals to Iran, saying the trade would not lead to weapons proliferation.

Reports said sanctions were imposed recently by the United States on Balaji Amines and Prachi Poly Products over transfer of some banned chemicals to Iran. An Indian foreign ministry spokesman rejected the version. “Our preliminary assessment is that the transfer of such chemicals was not in violation of our regulations or our international obligations,” he said, adding that the Indian government’s commitment to prevent onward proliferation was second to none.
