PESHAWAR, Aug 7: The NWFP chapter of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has dispatched relief goods worth Rs1.2 million for people affected by floods in Mardan.

According to a press release issued here on Monday, the relief consignment handed over to the DCO Mardan for distribution included 200 tents, 200 kitchen sets, 100 sheets, 200 food parcels containing rice, sugar, pulses, canned beans, canned fish and 10,000 water purification tablets.

Similarly, another consignment including 60 tents, 30 ground sheets, 50 food parcels and 4,000 water purification tablets was dispatched for flood-affected people in Swat.

The disaster management team of the PRCS is already in the area to make assessments of the losses in order to provide more relief to the victims.

TIMELY RELIEF: NWFP Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives Qari Mahmood has said that the provincial government is taking every step to provide relief and basic amenities to flood-affected people on priority basis.

He was talking to various delegations which called on him in his office on Monday.

The minister said floods were natural catastrophes and a nation should prepare itself to deal with such a situation. At provincial level, he said, relief work was carried out on emergency basis to save humans and animals.

The minister said Chief Minister Muhammad Akram Khan Durrani had rushed to the flood-hit areas to get first-hand knowledge about damages and ordered, on the spot, for redress of peoples’ problems.—APP/PPI
