LAHORE, Aug 5: The City District Government Lahore has identified nine places, one in each town, in the first phase for introducing Sasta Ration scheme of the chief minister to be opened in the city on Monday.
Pervaiz Elahi will inaugurate the scheme at Wahdat Colony cricket ground, according to sources.
Sources said in response to the CDGL’s request all the Town Municipal Administrations had offered their offices as the Sasta Ration centres. According to them, so far 95,000 families have been identified as deserving in the district while the number will soon be increased to 200,000.
For identifying the deserving families, they said, the help of union council nazims and secretaries had been sought. The lists provided by them were verified by the town administrations, they added.
The lists have been computerised and each family has been given a number as a foolproof arrangement. The deserving will be provided special coupons that they will produce at the Sasta Ration centres for getting flour, pulses and sugar at prices lower than the market rates.
No procedure has, however, been devised so far for informing the deserving people included in the lists and delivering them the coupons.
A meeting of the district officers with DCO Muhammad Ijaz was going on till late Saturday night for finalising details of the Monday’s scheme inauguration plan in view of the rainy season.
MOTORCYCLE-RICKSHAWS: A crackdown on underage motorcycle-rickshaw drivers will be initiated within a week as the CDGL has taken a decision to the effect.
DCO Muhammad Ijaz has formed a three-member committee to frame proposals for launching the crackdown.
The committee, comprising Regional Transport Authority secretary Arshad Zahid, District Environment Officer Tariq Zaman and traffic DSP Khalida Rasheed, will finalise terms of reference for the operation within seven days.
The action is also aimed at checking the rising number of motorcycle-rickshaws as well as the trend of unlicensed driving and violation of road safety laws.
The committee will also identify the areas where the three-wheelers are creating hurdles in smooth flow of traffic and their entry to these areas will be banned.
ANTI-PRICE HIKE DRIVE: Special magistrates on Saturday raided 222 shops and fined 41 shopkeepers Rs110,000 (collectively) for overcharging their consumers or not displaying price lists at conspicuous places.
The DCO appreciated Nishter Town magistrate Hafiz Muhammad Ahmad for raiding 38 shops and directed EDO (Revenue) Malik Muhammad Bakhsh to submit monitoring reports of all the special magistrates operating in the district.
He also wanted action against the magistrates who instead of conducting raids by themselves would send their subordinates for the purpose.
