HYDERABAD: Propaganda against city govt status rejected

HYDERABAD, July 29: The 11-member committee appointed by District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil for removing apprehensions and reservations of people about formation of the city government has said that towns in the future set-up will benefit a lot.

The committee rejected propaganda against the city government as absolutely baseless and made it clear that talukas (towns) would continue to receive building plan fees and the city government would only collect advertisement fees.

The committee members were talking to people at the office of district nazim here on Friday.

The committee, comprising Aslam Pervez advocate, the TMO Latifabad and Abdul Majeed Jattoo, explained that in return for advertisement fees, the city government would provide municipal services, set up water treatment plants, water reservoirs, parks, playgrounds and art galleries.

They stressed the need for showing large heartedness and mutual trust instead of suspecting intensions of one another.

They said that only the vested interests were trying to misguide people by unleashing propaganda that with setting up of the city government, all administrative and financial powers would be transferred to the city government.

The members of the committee pointed out that even the HDA was not working under the authority of the taluka municipal administration.

JAIL OFFICIALS CRITICISED: Sindh Taraqi Passand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has criticised the Dadu district administration for depriving central leaders of the party, who are confined in jail, of all facilities permissible under the jail manual.

In a statement faxed to Dawn here on Saturday, he said that at the instance of the Dadu district administration party leaders Gulzar Soomro, Khameso Panhwar and Ali Hassan Lund had been kept in solitary confinement and were being denied all facilities.

He said that Gulzar was seriously ill but he was not being shifted to the Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad as advised by doctors.

He warned the government that if the excesses against party leaders were not stopped and Gulzar Soomro was not shifted to hospital, a protest movement would be launched in the province.
