KARACHI, July 28: Bandits on Friday deprived 36 people of their cars, motorcycles or cellphones in various localities here.
Police said 16 vehicles – nine cars and seven motorcycles – were either hijacked or stolen. Two cars were taken away at gunpoint and seven others stolen.
Two motorbikes were snatched at gunpoint and five others stolen. Police claimed to have recovered four stolen cars and three motorcycles from various areas.
Twenty people reported that they were deprived of their mobile phones. Six reported to the police that their mobile phones, cash and belongings were snatched at gunpoint. Fourteen other people reported that their cellphones were stolen.
KILLED: A man was stabbed to death in Gulshan-i-Hadeed in Steel Town on Friday.
Police said Abdul Karim, 50, was the father of four. He had a quarrel with Abdullah, and after an exchange of hot words between the two over a petty issue, Abdullah stabbed Karim and fled. The victim died on the spot.
DIES: A labourer was killed and four others received injuries when a boiler exploded in a factory in Korangi here on Friday.
Police said Malik Riaz, 28 died on the spot while Ameen, Sualeh Mohamad, Naseer and Mujeeb received injuries and were shifted to a hospital where condition of Mujeeb was stated to be serious.
ARRESTED: The police have arrested three persons and registered 49 cases against those violating the ban on use of loudspeakers here on Friday.
A top-ranking police officer said the police renewed its effort to implement the ban strictly on the directives received from Islamabad.
He said that the violation of the ban on use of loudspeakers would not be tolerated.
He said the police have registered 49 FIRs against those violating the ban.
“We have arrested three persons in this respect, two from New Karachi and one from Korangi”, he added.
