LAHORE, July 26: The Pakistan Workers Federation has urged the government to impose a ban on hiring contract and temporary workers for permanent jobs to end their exploitation.
The demand was voiced at the executive committee meeting of the federation held at Bakhtiar Labour Hall here on Wednesday with Talib Nawaz in the chair.
Union secretary general Khurshid Ahmad said the government should not only ban employment of contract and temporary workers but also order regularisation of the service of workers already in employment.
Chairman Zahoor Awan urged the government to desist from privatising public sector units in oil, gas and power sectors as it would result in increase in oil, gas and electricity tariff.
He said the government should facilitate development of hydel and thermal power projects in public sector for generating cheap electricity as thermal power generated by private units was extremely costly.
