Two die, as many injured on road

MULTAN, Oct 5: Two persons, including a Naib Nazim, were killed while as many sustained injuries in different road accidents in and around the city during the last 24 hours.

Basti Himaitabad union council’s Naib Nazim Rana Iqbal was on his way home by his car (RLE-4075) on Thursday evening when a coach hit the vehicle near Qadirpur Ran by-pass. Iqbal died on the spot while his driver Ghulam Rasool sustained injuries. He was taken to the Nishtar Hospital in precarious condition.

In another incident, one Sadia was run over by a rashly-driven bus when she fell from a motorcycle near Hassnabad on Friday. She was taken to the Nishtar Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. Her brother also sustained minor injuries.

ARRESTED: The Multan Anti-Corruption has arrested 62 officials of various departments and recovered Rs3.1 million from their possession in September.

The arrested included four green inspectors, an SDO of buildings department, two police ASIs, two constables, an inspector of cooperative society, a buildings sub-engineer, a drug inspector, three medical officers, two teachers, two naib tehsildars, an advocate, a chief officer of the municipal corporation, a zakat officer, a zakat committee chairman and 14 patwaris.

As many as 176 cases and 246 inquiries were disposed of during the month.

PPP PRESIDENT: People would protest against the Multan Municipal Corporation if the roads would not be immediately repaired which had been dug by the PTCL authorities.

This was stated by Multan PPP president Khursheed Ahmad Khan in a press release here on Thursday.

He said a host of problems had arisen for motorists as no repair work had been started. Not only traffic mess but the situation had become dangerous for the motorists, he added. Some people might face health hazards because of increase in dust, he apprehended.

The PTCL had paid the amount required for reparation of roads but the MMC had not started work so far, he concluded.—Nouman
