DADU, July 22: The chairman of Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), Tariq Hameed, has said there is no need for load-shedding as the country has surplus power.

He said that the officials of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) were shedding the load on their own and warned that action would be taken against Hesco and Wapda officials if they resorted to load-shedding without any reason.

He was talking to reporters on Friday at the residence of Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi in the Betto Jatoi village after offering condolences on the death of Liaquat’s mother.

The officials should inform the consumers before suspending power supply due to maintenance work and complete repairs in the shortest possible time to save them from unnecessary hardships.

Federal Minister for Water and Power Mr Jatoi, said that work was continuing on different projects to supply more power to Karachi and directed the Hesco officials to stop load-shedding in Sukkur and its surrounding areas.

Member Water Choudhry Mushtaq, Member Power Choudhry Anwar Khalid and Hesco chief, Khwaja Maqbool were also present on the occasion.

KILLED: Two men, Akhtar Nawaz and Shahzad Ali, were killed when their car collided with a Hyderabad-bound passenger coach on Saturday.

Manjhand police impounded the coach and mounted a search for the driver who managed to escape after the accident.

The dead bodies were sent through Edhi ambulance to Larkana to which the two belonged.

SUICIDE: A 45-year-old woman, Ms Rani, wife of Mir Mohammad Bux Nohani, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in Naghal village, Sehwan taluka on Saturday.

The motive behind the suicide could not be ascertained.

Cattle colonies planned: Faqir Jadam Mangrio, provincial adviser to Sindh chief minister for livestock and fisheries has said that cattle colonies would be established in 27 towns of the province during this fiscal year.

He said that branches of banks would be opened in these towns to advance loan to farmers.

He was talking to reporters at circuit house here on Friday.

Jadam Mangrio further said that dairy villages would be established on 800 acres alongwith super highway and national highways.

He said that Rs370 million were allocated for development of fish hatcheries in Bubak, Chilya, Rohri, Dokri and Badin.

He said that reforms were introduced in livestock and fisheries department to provide facilities to cattle owners and fish farm owners.

Later, he went to residence of late project director of livestock and fisheries Dadu, Dr Allah Bux Panhwar offered condolence on his death with his family members.

SUICIDE: A 35-year-old unidentified person committed suicide by lying on the tracks before Dadu-bound passenger train on Thursday night. Dadu police recovered his body.

Police found Rs35,000 and a suicide note from his pocket.

The note said that he was committing suicide “as his wife has illicit relations” with his nephew.

REGISTRATION: Taluka nazim Sehwan, Sikandar Ali Rahpoto on Friday directed owners of 80 musafirkhanas of the town to get registered by August 14.

He was presiding over a meeting of owners of musafirkhanas and officials of different departments in his office.
