KARACHI, July 22: No proof has been produced by the police so far to prove suicide bombing in Nishtar Park, observed the inquiry tribunal of Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery, probing the Nishtar Park tragedy.

No police officer could give proof, nor any person deposed that he had seen the blast, Justice Jaffery said, taking notice of SHO Soldier Bazaar’s statement who wanted to depose in his statement that only suicide bombing was possible in Nishtar Park in the presence of fool-proof security arrangements.

“How can you say this as you did not see the incident,” tribunal asked the SHO Ali Raza who was present outside Nishtar Park at the time of blast. The tribunal asked the police officer to be careful giving statement.

The witness said he was not allowed by enraged mob to enter in Nishtar Park after the blast though he tried to do so. He admitted that he could not be able to cordon off the place of the incident because of behaviour of the angry mob in Nishtar Park.

JPMC MLO Dr Abdul Sahkoor Bhatti who examined the head of alleged suicide bomber and conducted autopsy of 10 deceased, also appeared before the tribunal to record his statement.

He said he first externally examined the head without the remaining body of a person aged about 20 to 25 years in hospital on April 12.

After the external examination, he said there were fractures in left and right sides of jaws, eyes were damaged while brain matter came out from base of the skull.

He said he was of the opinion that cause of death was cardio respiratory failure and decapitation of head from the body due to explosive material, such as blast. The tribunal reserved the examination of witness for Monday.—PPI
