LAHORE, July 19: The lists of households being prepared by enumerators deputed by the Election Commission of Pakistan would be finalised by July 28 and people should cooperate with them in discharge of their duty.
This was stated by Punjab Election Commissioner Ayaz Muhammad Baig while talking to Dawn here on Wednesday.
He said numbering of houses and lists of households were the first step towards preparation of fresh voters’ lists which would be finalised on May 20, 2007 on the basis of joint electorate.
Mr Baig said complaints were being received regarding non-cooperation of people with enumerators which was hampering their work at some places. The enumerators were teachers and people should cooperate with them. In case of doubt about their antecedents, people could also check their identity cards, he said.
Mr Baig said those not having computerised national identity cards must get them now because CNICs were required for their enlistment as voters.
He said forms for the enlistment of voters would be distributed from July 29. Separate forms would be issued to general voters and the government officials. The names of voters would be fed into computers and a draft publication of their lists made to invite objections to be heard by judicial officers.
