Brothers get lease of life

KASUR, July 19: The two brothers who were to be hanged on Thursday (today) in the district jail, got a lease of life as the sentence was stayed by the court.

According to Jail Superintendent Zia Ullah, Amanat Ali and Aslam were awarded death in a triple murder case by Pattoki additional and sessions judge with a fine of Rs50,000 each on Sept 21, 1993.

The accused had filed mercy pleas to the Lahore High Court, the Supreme Court and the president, which were rejected. However, the court issued a stay order, allowing the convicts to appeal to the families of the deceased for mercy — Correspondent
