SHO ‘reluctant’ to book colleagues

VEHARI, July 19: Additional District and Sessions Judge Subh Sadique Khan on Wednesday ordered registration of case against 17 people, including a DSP and 12 policemen, under section 154, for their alleged involvement in an encounter at Chak 23/WB in which a man was killed.

However, the SHO concerned was reluctant to obey court orders, the complainant alleged

Reports said a woman, Rasheedan Bibi, had filed a petition with the court seeking registration of a murder case against Saddar police station former DSP Zafar Dogar, then SHO Aslam Ghuman, constable Zia, former union council nazim Afzal Yousaf, councillor Shafique Dogar, and 12 unidentified police officials, for killing her son Ashraf alias Jani in a fake encounter.on May 24, 2006.

However, Rashidan Bibi told Dawn that when she approached Saddar police SHO Saeed Lodhi for registration of case as directed by the court, he refused to do so without getting `green signal’ from his high-ups.

Till the filing of this report, the case had not been registered by the police.

Sources said the accused SHO had already been suspended, while the DSP was transferred to Hasilpur.
