ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has disposed of 6216 cases under different categories out of a total of 8062 fixed under the SOP developed and issued on April 21, 2026.

The information was shared with the media by Registrar of the Supreme Court Sohail Leghari at a briefing on the fixation policy of cases on Thursday.

The categories included cases relating to deaths, bail after arrest, bail before arrest, family matters, rent, service and taxes.

He explained that now cases were fixed for hearing under the new fixation policy and that no case was fixed on the verbal orders of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi.

He said when CJP assumed the office, there was no categorisation of cases. Categorising of cases was a difficult task, he said, adding under the fixation policy all the files of cases were scanned categorised along with digitisation.

He conceded that cases before trial courts remained suspended due to the pendency of appeals before the Supreme Court, adding now all cases have been categorided by December 2025.

He said all death penalty cases had been decided in the Supreme Court till Dec 2025. Moreover, the Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court has also decided all death penalty appeals.
