Outlaw, father killed in police encounter

HARIPUR: An alleged outlaw wanted by the Attock police in a number of criminal offenses was gunned down along with his father during a joint operation of Haripur police and Counter Crime Department Attock while a girl allegedly kidnapped by him for Rs50 million ransom was recovered unhurt, DPO Haripur Shafiullah Gandapur said here on Wednesday evening.

He said the suspect’s family, comprising two women and three children, whom he had allegedly used as human shields to evade arrest, was also rescued safely during the operation.

The DPO said that on an intelligence report, theHaripur police and CCD Attock found some outlaws hiding in a house near Chungi No 3 Khalabat Township.

The Haripur police and CCD Attock when tried to arrest the outlaws, they opened fire at the police and after the two-hour long cross firing two persons from the kidnappers gang were found dead, while others taking advantage of the darkness escaped, he added.

Those killed in the encounter, he said, were identified later as Zargham Ullah son of Khalid Mehmood Khan and his father Khalid Mehmood Khan of village Kanjoor Attock.

He said that the outlaw Zargham Ullah was required by Taxila, Hasan Abadal and Attock Police in a number of criminal offenses of kidnapping for ransom, hired assassinations, terrorist activities, target killing and rape.

The DPO said that thepolice have successfully recovered two women and three children that the alleged outlaw held hostage to avoid arrest while a girl was also recovered from another place that Zargham had kidnapped for a ransom of Rs50 million.
