KARACHI: A man drowned while trying to save a four-year-old boy who fell into the Lyari river near Sohrab Goth on Tuesday evening.

According to Rescue-1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan, the boy, Ali Shahzeb, was riding a bicycle when he fell into the Lyari river at around 6pm. He said a 25-year-old resident of the same locality jumped into the river to save the boy but drowned.

He said a rescue team, along with lifeguards, was rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the youth.

The official said a search operation was underway to locate and recover the missing boy.

Mr Khan said it was not the first incident at the same location, as several similar incidents had been reported from the spot in the recent past.
