SWABI, Oct 17: The candidates of National Awami Party, Collective Independent Swabi Group (CISG) and the PPP have emerged victorious in the by-elections held in three union councils of district Swabi on Tuesday.
According to the unofficial results announced here on Wednesday, in Panjpir union council Gohar Rehman of ANP won the seat by securing 1,995 votes, while his rival Hashmat Khan of Swabi Qaumi Mahaz got 1,882 votes, while 80 votes were rejected.
In the elections held in March, Masood Jabar (Tehsil Swabi Nazim) emerged victorious, Hashmat Khan was the runner-up and Gohar Rehman remained third. However, Gohar improved his position and snatched victory.
In another one-to-one contest in Sard Cheena UC, the CISG candidate, Mohammad Sabir, captured the slot of Nazim by defeating Mohammad Rafiq of ANP and a Jamat-i-Islami candidate. The former secured 1,038 votes while the latter 976 votes.
In Gabasri UC, there were five candidates in the run for the Nazim slot. Zahir Shah of PPP emerged winner and Sabir Rehman was the runner-up. Zahir Shah secured 1,894 votes and Sabir Rehman got 1,641 votes.
