RAWALPINDI: The district administration on Monday issued a revised price list for essential commodities, increasing the prices of pulses and milk.
However, prices of edibles in the market remained higher than the notified rates.
The Rawalpindi Karyana Merchant Association rejected the new price list, saying it wanted the prices of pulses to be increased in line with wholesale market rates.
The administration fixed the price of roti at Rs14 and removed the rate of naan from the official price list.
According to the new official list, the price of daal channa (split chickpeas) has been fixed at Rs220 per kg, while it is being sold at Rs245 per kg in the market. Daal moong (split yellow lentils) has been fixed at Rs220 per kg against the market price of Rs250 per kg.
The official price of daal mash (split black gram) is Rs400 per kg, but it is available in the market at Rs490 per kg. Similarly, besan (gram flour) has been fixed at Rs215 per kg, while its market price is Rs250 per kg.
The price of rice remains unchanged at Rs310 per kg, but it is being sold at Rs360 per kg in the market. Milk has been fixed at Rs210 per litre, while its market price is Rs260 per litre. Curd has been fixed at Rs230 per kg, but is being sold at Rs280 per kg.
The official price of mutton has been fixed at Rs1,900 per kg, whereas its market price is Rs3,200 per kg. Beef has been fixed at Rs1,000 per kg, while it is being sold at Rs1,900 per kg.
Rawalpindi Karyana Merchant Association President Saleem Pervaiz Butt told Dawn that traders had reservations about the new price list as it did not reflect ground realities.
“We wanted further increases as the price of pulses increased by Rs20 per kg on Monday,” he said, adding that it would be difficult to sell pulses according to the notified rates.
Meanwhile, a senior official of the district administration said the provincial government had directed officials to implement the official price list at any cost.
He said price magistrates would remain active and take action against violators.
