Blind murder case solved after five months

RAWALPINDI: Police have solved the mystery of a blind murder and arrested a woman and her friend who allegedly poisoned her husband and strangled him in the limits of Saddar Baruni police over five months ago, police said on Monday.

Faisal Mehmood had married Hira 16 years ago and they had a nine-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter. The arrest of the woman and her friend came about after the postmortem and forensic report confirmed that the man was given poison and then strangled.

Liaquat Ali, 55, recorded a statement with the police saying that the wife of his cousin Fasil Mehmood informed him that Mehmood had gone to earn his livelihood but did not return home. He said as a search was launched, the body of Mehmood was found lying at a deserted place a few days later.

The police and forensic investigation teams reached the spot and shifted the body to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH). Police said a report was registered under the relevant sections of the law on February 11, 2026. Later, the postmortem and forensic reports revealed that Mehmood was given ‘Carbofurane’ poison with a meal and later strangled, a police spokesman said on Monday.

He added that after the postmortem and forensic reports, section 302 (murder) and 201 (causing the disappearance of evidence of an offense or giving false information to screen an offender) and 34 (pre-arranged plan with common intention) were added to the FIR. Police said that during the investigation it was revealed that the deceased’s wife had given poison in meal to her husband on Feb, 10, 2026. After his condition deteriorated, Mehmood was put into a car by the suspects and two other persons and driven to an undisclosed place where he was murdered. His body was disposed at a deserted place near Dhoke Sharfuddin.

The Saddar Baruni police launched legal action after the body of Mehmood was found lying at a deserted place five months ago. In the light of the postmortem and forensic reports, the wife of the deceased was included in the investigation.

She, along with her accomplice, revealed during investigation that she poisoned her husband, strangled him to death and threw his body at a deserted place. The police have arrested both the suspects and also recovered the vehicle used in the crime. 

Superintendent of Police Saddar Division Anam Sher said the arrested suspects will be challaned with solid evidence.
