TAXILA: The local administration intensified its campaign against profiteering on Monday by sealing two shops found violating the government-notified price list during a surprise inspection of markets.

Taxila assistant commissioner (AC) conducted surprise visits to various markets across the city to review the prices of essential commodities, monitor compliance with the official price list and assess the facilities being provided to consumers.

During the inspection, AC Maria Javed checked the prices of food items at several retail outlets and directed shopkeepers to strictly adhere to the official rates notified by the Punjab government.

She warned that no tolerance would be shown towards profiteering, overcharging, or violations of the prescribed price list.

The inspection found evidence of overcharging and non-compliance with the official price list at a naan shop and a grocery store. Both establishments were sealed on the spot and legal action was initiated in accordance with the relevant laws.

Talking to reporters, the assistant commissioner reiterated that the district administration was committed to protecting consumers from exploitation and ensuring the availability of essential commodities at government-approved prices. She urged traders to fully comply with the official price list, warning that strict action against violators would continue to safeguard the public interest.
