KARACHI: The Pakistan Prime Minister on Thursday [July 26] offered a five-point peace plan to the Bharati Prime Minister “for the restoration of a peaceful atmosphere and establishment of friendly relations between the two countries on a permanent basis”. Mr Liaquat Ali Khan also invited Mr Jawaharlal Nehru to come to Karachi ... to discuss any provisions of the plan after the latter had taken “the first and most essential step for relieving the present tension” namely withdrawal of Bharati troops to peacetime stations. Categorically asserting that Pakistan had no intention of attacking Bharati territory, Mr … Khan said: “Both of us have made similar declarations before. These have produced no results because time and again you have threatened the security of Pakistan ... .”

The Pakistan Prime Minister hoped that “in the interest of international peace and friendly relations” ... Mr Nehru would accept his offer “without reserve or qualification”.

[Meanwhile, according to news agencies in Cairo,] Plans to raise an army of Mujaheds from all parts of the Muslim world to defend Pakistan if there was war with Bharat are understood to be well in hand.
