TOBA TEK SINGH: A man has been arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing his 17-year-old cousin over rejecting his marriage proposal in the Barkhordar village of Nankana Sahib district.

Police claimed Sadia Bibi was allegedly shot dead by her cousin Javed Iqbal after a dispute over rejecting his marriage proposal. Police claimed to have arrested the accused and a case had been registered against him by the Baraghar Police on the complaint of victim’s father Muhammad Khan.

ACCIDENT: A pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a speeding mini truck near the shrine of Hazrat Sultan Bahu, Garh Maharaja in Jhang district on Sunday.

According to Rescue 1122, Abdul Karim (27), a resident of Mianwali, was crossing the road when he was hit by the mini truck. He received critical injuries and was shifted to the Garh Maharaja RHC where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, one Bushra Bibi (45) died and her husband Mazhar Ali (50) was seriously wounded when a speeding truck ran over their motorcycle on the Jhang Road near Thikriwala in Faisalabad.

The injured man was shifted to the Allied Hospital.

ENCOUNTER: An alleged robber was killed in an encounter with the People’s Colony Police in Faisalabad late on Saturday night. Police claimed that a police party led by SHO Mian Wajid Hussain signalled three suspects riding a motorcycle to stop near Jhaal Bridge. However, police claimed that they opened indiscriminate fire on the policemen, which was also returned.

Police claimed an exchange of fire took place after the police chased the suspects to the Railway Ground. When the guns went silent, police claimed to have found one suspect injured by the firing of his accomplices, who had escaped.

Police claimed that he was shifted to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Aqib Akku of Chak 189 RB Rasool Pur in Chak Jhumra tehsil and was involved in 11 robberies.

MURDER: A PTCL security guard at the Mohsinwal telephone exchange had been allegedly murdered by unidentified persons on Saturday night.

According to Rescue 1122, Shoukat Zulfiqar (55) was on duty when unidentified persons attacked and killed him with knives.

ARREST: A maid accused of stealing gold ornaments worth millions has been arrested by the Faisalabad Mansoorabad Police.

Police claimed the accused, Muqaddas Bibi, a resident of Abdullah Pur, used to work at the home of complainant Touqeer Akhtar. Police claimed that when the family was not present, she stole 16 tola gold jewellery from the family’s safe.

Police also claimed to have recovered stolen jewellery worth Rs8.5 million from her house in Mouza Karawala on her identification.

RAPE: The Nankana Saddar police arrested on Sunday a vagabond for allegedly raping a differently abled teenager in Chak Peeriwala.

The victim’s brother, in his complaint to the police, claimed that his brother K (16) was lured by the accused to a room of a government primary school, where he forcibly raped him.

RESEARCH AWARD: Pakistani researcher Dr Adnan Arshad, from Toba Tek Singh, has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Best Research Article Award’ at the recent International Congress of Biometeorology.

The congress was held at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia where Dr Arshad was selected as one of only three award winners for his outstanding scientific paper. His paper focuses on cotton production and the calibration of phenology-driven models for sowing and yield optimisation in drip-irrigated arid climates. The research holds significant promise for improving agricultural practices in water-scarce regions.
