RAWALPINDI: The Chief Election Commissioner, Mr Justice Sajjad Ahmed Jan, has appealed to the people who have attained the age of 21 to get themselves registered as voters. In a broadcast over Radio Pakistan this evening [July 25] he said in a democratic society general elections are the most important political process in a nation’s life. The basic requirement was to complete and make up to date the electoral rolls, he said. … [The CEC] particularly appealed to women to do their national duty by getting themselves registered as voters.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Karachi,] a physical and socio-economic survey of sub-standard urban areas and irregular settlements in various parts of the city, will be carried out by two consultation firms. … The areas selected for the physical survey include Baldia township, New Golimar and Janabad. … The … survey will include a residential plot sample survey to estimate total population, demographic composition, levels and types of economic activities, educational levels and other relevant data... . On the basis of these surveys the KMC intends to chalk out a ... plan for upgradation... .
