ISLAMABAD: Pakistan maintained their unbeaten run with a straight-set victory over Nepal while Uzbekistan and Bangladesh also secured wins on the third day of the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Liaquat Gymnasium of the Pakistan Sports Complex on Friday.
Pakistan dominated from the outset, using powerful serving, effective blocking, quick attacks and disciplined defence to keep Nepal under pressure throughout the contest. The hosts never allowed their opponents to settle and completed a 3-0 victory with scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-10.
Uzbekistan, meanwhile, defeated Sri Lanka 3-1 in a closely contested encounter. Uzbekistan edged the opening set 25-23 before Sri Lanka fought back to level the match with a 25-22 win in the second. Uzbekistan regained control through disciplined blocking and powerful attacks to take the next two sets 25-19 and 25-22.
Bangladesh prevailed in the day’s most thrilling contest, overcoming Kazakhstan 3-2 in a match that lasted more than two hours.
Kazakhstan made a strong start by taking the opening set 25-20, but Bangladesh responded with effective serving and determined defensive play to win the next two sets 25-21 and 25-23.
Kazakhstan refused to surrender and forced a deciding fifth set after winning the fourth 25-21. Bangladesh, however, held their nerve during the decisive moments to win the final set 15-12 and seal the match 3-2.
