KARACHI: This year’s second case of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) was reported at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

Speaking to Dawn, Dr Irfan Siddiqui said the patient hailing from Quetta reported in the early morning hours on July 21.

“He had a history of high fever and epistaxis (nosebleed). Blood tests showed low platelets, low haemoglobin and severely elevated liver enzymes. He was kept in an isolation unit,” he said, adding that the patient later tested positive for Congo fever.

According to him, the hospital offered him to get shifted to the Sindh Infectious Disease Hospital and Research Centre (SID&RH) but he opted to seek treatment at a private hospital on July 22.
