KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has said that the healthcare system should be built on the principles of public service and public welfare rather than profit.

He emphasised that continuous coordination and mutual collaboration across all sectors, particularly healthcare, are essential for progress, improved performance and the delivery of quality services to the people.

He expressed these views while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 3rd Healthcare Expo and Conference.

The governor said, “Cleanliness is half of faith, and prevention is better than cure.”

He stressed that if cleanliness becomes an integral part of everyday life, many diseases and public health challenges can be effectively prevented.

He added that strict adherence to hygiene standards is essential at every stage of medical treatment, surgical procedures and healthcare services.

He said that it is the fundamental responsibility of the state to provide every citizen with accessible, affordable and quality healthcare services.

The governor said that the restoration of the Health Facilitation Programme reflected the people-centric vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He further stated that the state invested substantial resources in educating doctors, engineers and other professionals and, therefore, they have a responsibility to serve the nation with dedication and sincerity.

He added that medical professionals should regard their work as a noble humanitarian responsibility, as it is directly linked to protecting and saving human lives.

He emphasised that promoting the spirit of service over commercial gain in the healthcare sector is the need of the hour. He appreciated the services of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and other public healthcare institutions for providing quality medical care across Sindh and said that building a healthy, dignified and welfare-oriented society is a shared responsibility.

Later, he toured the Healthcare Expo, visited various exhibition stalls, and expressed keen interest in advanced medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare technologies, and medical products on display.
