NAWABSHAH: Seven policemen, including two former SHOs, managed to escape from the Nawabshah District and Sessions Court after scuffles with FIA personnel, who failed to keep their custody upon rejection of their bail pleas on Thursday.

They were among the 11 policemen facing a trial after being booked on a court order over the death of a youth at the B-Section police station of Benazirabad district. The remaining four were arrested by the FIA.

The two former SHOs, Syed Asghar Ali Shah of the B-Section police station and Imran Akhtar Chandio of the Shahdadpur police station, as well as five other policemen (co-accused), made their escape good as they, along with their relatives and friends, posed a stiff resistance to FIA’s attempt to arrest them. A complete chaos prevailed during the scuffles on the court premises.

The four arrested accused are ASI Abdul Sattar Kamboh, Saleem Brohi, Rao Nadeem and Tayyab Jatt.

The case pertained to the death of a youth, Arshad Bhatti, a resident of Shahdadpur, some three months ago. The bereaved family had nominated the 11 policemen in their FIR, lodged at FIA’s Benazirabad Composite Circle on a court order.

The FIR was registered under Sections 302, 337-L, 337-K, 343, 34 and 109 PPC, read with Sections 8 and 9 of the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention & Punishment) Act, 2022.
