ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Cuba in Pakistan, in collaboration with the Pak-Cuba Social Forum, hosted a photo exhibition titled “Fidel Forever” on Thursday evening.
Held at the Cuban Embassy in Islamabad to commemorate the centenary celebrations of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, the event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, guests from academia, prominent figures from social circles, and friends of Cuba.
Opening the proceedings, the Ambassador of Cuba to Pakistan, Damian Cordero, welcomed the guests and reflected on the enduring vision of Commander Fidel Castro. The ambassador emphasised the event as a dual celebration, a tribute to Fidel’s revolutionary leadership and an occasion to celebrate Cuba’s recent diplomatic victory at the United Nations against the US blockade – a victory achieved with the steadfast support of friendly nations worldwide, whose representatives were present at the event.
Ambassador Cordero elaborated on Fidel Castro’s legacy across all dimensions, specifically praising his humanitarian philosophy of international solidarity.
He highlighted how Cuban medical missions and humanitarian personnel continued to serve selflessly in some of the most remote corners of the world.
Speaking on the occasion, President of the Pak-Cuba Social Forum, Ramzan Mughal, paid tributes to the late Cuban leader and reflected on the deep-rooted relationship between Pakistan and Cuba.
“Today, as we gather to mark the Centenary Celebrations of Fidel Castro, we do not merely look back at history through photographs. We celebrate a timeless vision of leadership, courage, and internationalism,” said Mr Mughal.
“The people of Pakistan will never forget the overwhelming generosity of Cuba and Commander Fidel Castro during our times of need, particularly the medical aid and support sent after the 2005 earthquake, as well as the medical scholarships granted to young Pakistani doctors,” he said.
The exhibition “Fidel Forever” served as crucial cultural and diplomatic bridge, preserving shared history and nurturing warm bilateral ties for future generations.
The exhibition showcased a curated show of historical photographs capturing pivotal moments in Fidel Castro’s life, his global humanitarian vision, and the historical milestones of Pakistan-Cuba diplomatic relations, as well as moments of interaction with prominent leaders and important figures.
Guests toured the gallery, expressing admiration for the shared values of friendship, mutual respect, and international solidarity celebrated throughout the evening.
The show was inaugurated by former Senator Mushahid Hussain Saeed, who admired the Cuban nation’s resilient spirit.
