PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa information minister Shafi Jan on Wednesday said the future course of action for the release of incarcerated prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan would be decided in a public gathering to be held at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium here on Aug 5.

Addressing a joint news conference with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, the minister said the decision about the Aug 5 gathering was made during a meeting here to mark three years since the arrest of Mr Imran.

He said that the participants included Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Mr Gohar, PTI central general secretary Salman Akram Raja, former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser and other senior central and provincial party leaders.

“PTI workers from across the province will participate in the gathering in large numbers,” he said.

Mr Jan said that every prisoner was entitled to fundamental human rights but Mr Imran was denied them.

He said that the PTI founder had been kept in solitary confinement for the last seven months amid restrictions on his meetings, a violation of fundamental human rights.

The minister said that consultations would be held with opposition Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and other political parties, opposing the current federal government, to evolve a joint strategy for the future.
