SHANGLA: Fourteen people, including members of the Tableeghi Jamaat from Bahawalnagar in Punjab, were injured after a van plunged into a gorge in Alpuri tehsil here on Monday morning, a Rescue 1122 official said.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Rasool Khan Sharif said the coach was on its way from Bazarkot to Swat when its driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a turn at the Shangla Top and fell into a deep ravine.

Police, rescue personnel and residents shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital, Alpuri. Four of the injured were referred to Saidu Teaching Hospital, Swat, due to their critical condition.

The injured were identified as Yasin, Mohammad Asif, Moazam, Tahir Abbas, Waris Ali, Ghulam Mohammad, Usman, Aziz-ur-Rehman, Mohammad Ahmed, Ziaul Haq, driver Aqil Badshah, Siyasat Ali and two others whose names could not be known.

Meanwhile, Bisham police arrested two suspects, Fazal Karim and Ahmad Zeb, hailing from the Kohistan region, in connection with a murder case. The suspects had been absconding for the last several days.

Meanwhile, 13 people were arrested for violating the ban on swimming in the Indus River.

The district administration has imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Cases were registered against the arrested persons under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
