LAHORE: The national training camp featuring twenty-eight probables started at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium in Islamabad on Saturday for next month’s FIH World Cup.
The 16-nation global showpiece will be co-hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium from Aug 15 to 30.
Hanan Shahid and Mohammad Sufyan Khan, who were injured and did not participate in the last two legs of the FIH Pro Hockey League, have been recalled for the camp.
Dutch Herman Kruis, the newly-appointed head coach, along with other foreign coaches and experts are overseeing the camp.
Besides Kruis, the PHF also hired David Dwyer of Australia as fitness and high-performance coach, Dutch Bob Johan Veldhof and Australian Chris Bowen as technical coach and sports psychologist respectively, soon after Pakistan’s dismal show in the nine-team Pro League where the Green-shirts finished at the bottom.
The camp will continue till July 26 after which the final squad for the World Cup will be announced.
