KARACHI: Police on Wednesday established a drug screening centre to provide timely treatment to addicts Lyari.
South DIG Syed Asad Raza inaugurated the centre in Usmanabad and termed it an important step for public welfare by the law enforcement agency.
He said instead of being taken to police station, drug addicts will now be referred to this centre where experts would not only provide medical and psychological diagnosis but counselling and guidance as well.
He said after thorough screening, the drug addicts would be transferred to certified rehabilitation centres.
“The addicts are not criminals and they deserve treatment and rehabilitation,” he said, adding that apart from elimination of narcotics, rehabilitation of addicts was also a priority of the Sindh police.
He said with help of community, doctors and welfare organisations, such centres would be established at union committee level for screening and treatment of addicts.
